Visit of Professor Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary to the International
Research and Production Holding "Phytochemistry"

     On December 13-14, 2015 Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) of the University of Karachi (Pakistan), Professor Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary visited the International Research and Production Holding "Phytochemistry" and Karaganda Pharmaceutical Plant.
     On December 14, 2015 a research workshop was organized at holding "Phytochemistry" with participation of the visiting Professor Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary dedicated to joint research of biologically active compounds from plant raw materials and the entry of holding "Phytochemistry" to COMSATS (Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South).
     Professor Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary is a member of COMSATS, Islamic Countries Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation. President of Pakistan is the Chairman of COMSATS. The main objective of COMSATS is to enhance cooperation between the Islamic countries in the field of science and technology. COMSATS allocates funds for research and innovative technologies development.
     Membership in COMSATS offers the opportunity to participate in the international scientific and educational projects and programs in the field of Chemistry, Biology and Medicine.
     The workshop was attended by the following participants: Doctors of Chemical  Sciences, Professors G.M. Kadirberlin, N.M. Gafurov from E.A. Buketov Karaganda State University; Doctor of Chemical  Sciences, Professor S.D. Fazylov from the  Institute of Organic Synthesis and Coal Chemistry; Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor S.K. Zhaugasheva from Karaganda State Medical University; Director of Karaganda Pharmaceutical Plant, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences E.G. Tolokonnikov; and also the leading scientists of holding "Phytochemistry" including  the corresponding member of NAS RK, Doctor of Chemical  Sciences, Professor G.A. Atazhanova; the corresponding member NAS RK, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences K.I. Itzhanova; Doctors of Chemical  Sciences, Professors A.Zh. Turmukhambetov and B.I. Tuleuov; Candidates of Chemical  Sciences Zh.S. Nurmaganbetov and Mukusheva G.K; Candidates of Pharmaceutical Sciences G.H. Tuleuova, A.N. Zhabayeva; Candidates of Medical Sciences R.B. Seydakhmetova, L.I. Arystan; PhD and Master students. Overall, more than 50 employees were present.
     Academician of NAS RK, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor S.M. Adekenov was a Chairman of the workshop.
The report of Professor Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary was dedicated to the main scientific directions of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) of the University of Karachi (Pakistan). Holding "Phytochemistry" employees went on training to ICCBS of the University of Karachi where they conducted research to study the molecular structure of new medicinal substances from plants and their pharmacological properties.
     Workshop participants discussed with Professor Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary promising fields of research of the chemical composition of Kazakhstan plants, chemical structure elucidation of molecules of the isolated natural compounds, study of their biological and pharmacological activity, development of new drugs for medicinal purposes, and also opportunities of joint research grants, staff exchange programs, joint fellowships and training of holding "Phytochemistry" staff in ICCBS of the University of Karachi, training and professional development of young researchers through PhD and Master programs.
     Based on the results his visit, Professor Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary will make an assessment of research and innovative potential of holding "Phytochemistry" which will facilitate the entry of a renowned Kazakhstan research and production center to COMSATS.

During the workshop session, the Agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) of the University of Karachi and the International Research and Production Holding "Phytochemistry" was signed.
